Juni-Aufstand in der Türkei: Hintergründe, Dynamiken und Perspektiven

Der aus der Besetzung des Istanbuler Gezi-Parks hervorgegangene Aufstand in der Türkei hat nicht nur neue Debatten über die politische Zukunft des Landes ausgelöst, sondern auch kritische Perspektiven auf die Politik der vergangenen Dekade prominenter gemacht. Neoliberaler Autoritarismus, religiöser Konservatismus, Medienzensur und Repression sind hervorstechende Begriffe, die die nachhaltige Verschiebung in der politischen Einschätzung der AKP verdeutlichen. In Opposition hierzu stehen Begriffe wie Demokratisierung, Widerstand, politische Partizipation, neue Alltagspraktiken, kulturelle Vielfalt und Solidarität, die mit der aus den Gezi-Park Protesten hervorgegangenen Bewegung assoziiert werden. Mit der Tagung möchten wir dem Wechselzusammenhang zwischen der Politik und den Kämpfen der vergangenen Dekade und dem Aufstand nachgehen. Welche politischen, kulturellen und sozio-ökonomischen Dynamiken charakterisieren die 2000er Jahre? In welchem Verhältnis stehen sie zu aktuellen Protesten in der Türkei? Markiert der Aufstand eine Zäsur in der Geschichte des Landes, wenn ja, inwiefern?
Neben der Betrachtung landesspezifischer Dynamiken möchten wir dazu einladen, den Aufstand im Rahmen eines globalen Protestzyklus zu betrachten. Zu den globalen Parallelen gehört die Form der Besetzung als politisches Mittel des Protests ebenso wie Widerstand gegen neoliberale Privatisierungspolitik. Fragen nach der Krise der politischen Repräsentation, den Praxen und Formen politischer Partizipation schließen an. Wo genau können die Ereignisse in der Türkei verortet werden, wenn sie in einer globalen Perspektive betrachtet wird?
Mit der Tagung laden wir dazu ein, theoretische und empirische Befunde zum Juni-Aufstand, seinen Hintergründen und Folgen zu diskutieren. Fallstudien sind ebenso willkommen wie konzeptionelle Thematisierungen. Mögliche aber keineswegs ausschließliche Themenstellungen sind:
Einbettung in eine Geschichte sozialer Kämpfe in der Türkei (bspw. Bedeutung der neuen Segmente der ArbeiterInnen und Gewerkschaften, urbankritische Bewegungen und neue soziale Bewegungen)
Einbettung in politische, kulturelle und sozio-ökonomische Transformationsprozesse in der Türkei
Einbettung in eine aktuelle globale Perspektive sozialer Kämpfe, insbesondere vergleichende Analysen mit Bewegungen/Kämpfen in anderen Ländern
Fragen nach den konstituierenden Praktiken (bspw. neue Alltagspraktiken, basis-demokratische Ansätze, Partizipationsformen, Kritik an Herrschaftspraxen, Repertoire der Protestformen)
Fragen nach den Akteuren und der sozialen Trägerschaft des Aufstands

Bewerbungen mit einem Abstract von nicht mehr als 500 Wörtern bitte bis zum 7. Februar 2014 an tagung.juniaufstand@gmail.com senden. Bewerbungen können auf Deutsch und Englisch eingereicht werden, die Vorträge können ebenfalls in beiden Sprachen gehalten werden.
Die Benachrichtigung über die Teilnahme erfolgt bis zum 15. Februar 2014. Die Einreichung ausformulierter Papiere (5000 Wörter) wird bis zum 1. Mai 2014 erbeten. Es wird geplant im Anschluss an die Tagung einen Tagungsband zu veröffentlichen.

June–Uprising in Turkey: Background, Dynamics and Perspectives

The mass uprising in Turkey, sparked by the occupation of Gezi Park in Istanbul, a not only trigger new debates regarding the political future of the country. It also opened up a space for critical perspectives on the politics of the last decade. Neoliberal authoritarianism, religious conservatism, media censorship and repression are the salient concepts which are used to analyse the AKP. On the other hand democratization, resistance, political participation, novel daily life practices, cultural diversity and solidarity are associated with the movement that has emanated from the Gezi Park protests. With this workshop, we aim to look into the dynamic relations between the politics and struggles of the last decade and the uprising. Which political, cultural, and socio-economic dynamics characterize the 2000s? How are they related to the current protests in Turkey? Does the protest mark a turning point in the country’s history? And if it is the case, to what extent?
In addition to the examination of the country-specific dynamics, we ask participants to explore the uprising in the framework of a global protest cycle. Occupation and encampment as a new political form of protest as well as resistance against neoliberal authoritarianism/ austerity policies appears as a common global tendency. Questions concerning the crisis of political representation, economic participation, and the practices and modes of political participation follow. How can the protests in Turkey be located in a global context?
For this purpose, with this workshop, we invite you to discuss empirical and theoretical findings on the June-Uprising as well as its background and outcomes. Case studies are welcome, and so are conceptual thematizations. Possible, albeit by no means exhaustive, topics are:
What are the major political, cultural and socio-economic transformation processes that need to be taken account to understand the politics of the AKP-government and the mass uprising in Turkey?
How is the June uprising embedded in a history of social struggles in Turkey (e.g. the relevance of new segments of working class and trade unions, critical urban movement and new social movements)?
What could be the main axis of a comparative perspective to analyse global social movements and struggles?
What are the new constitutive practices (e.g. novel daily life practices, grassroot democracy experiments, the modes of participation, domination practices, the repertoire of protest forms)?
Who are the actors and the social organizing bodies of the uprising?
